Charlie works as a lineman at the Uppalam Power Center in Kayalpattinam, Thoothukudi district. Charlie’s son Jegan Balaji, an electrical engineering graduate, wants to help the common people through his inventions. For that, he creates an automatic device to turn on and off electric lights. He tries to get recognition for it, but wherever he goes, he only gets failure, and he continues to travel without giving up. But, some conspiracies are hatched against his invention by the bosses, did he recover from those conspiracies and succeed in his endeavor? Or not? ‘Lineman’ tells the story.
This film, which is based on a true story, tells the hardships a simple man faces to get recognition for his new invention and how the workers working in the salt pan are affected by capitalism, but it has done it very well, even though it is a little cinematic.
Although Jagan Balaji, who plays the hero of the story, is a newcomer, he has conveyed the pain of the true story to the audience through his performance.
Charlie, who plays Jagan Balaji’s father, has made a symbolic journey through the film with his experienced performance. The arrival of Aditi Balan, who plays a special appearance, is an additional strength for the film. Saranya Ravichandran, who plays the heroine, has reflected the women workers working in the salt pan. And everyone who has played many characters has come across as sons of the soil.
All the technical artists, including music, cinematography, and editing, have traveled to support director M. Udaykumar in telling the life and pain of the saltpeter workers, as well as the struggle of a simple scientist who yearns for recognition, in the language of film.
Director M. Udaykumar, who has written the screenplay with some commercial elements to tell the struggle of a particular person realistically and tell it in a language that can be enjoyed by all parties, has not only made it an entertaining film, but has also given hope to the youth who are going through such struggles in life that if they try, they will definitely succeed.
