The story takes place in the pre-2014 period. During that period, fishermen lose their livelihood due to the giant pipeline being built to carry crude oil from Chennai Port to the oil refinery in North Chennai. Some of the fishermen who leave the village after fighting against the project but to no avail, are making a career of stealing the same crude oil. Due to the conspiracy of some big businessmen who nurture such crude oil mafia, a situation of great danger is created for the fishing villages across North Chennai. The hero Harish Kalyan, who learns this, tries to foil the plot. Did he succeed? What is the background of the plot? What is the danger that will arise as a result? ‘Diesel’ tells the truth closely.
Harish Kalyan has established himself as an action hero. Harish Kalyan, who plays a fisherman, has beautifully expressed everything including his body language and added extra strength to the film. He has shown mature acting in all areas, from the sentimental scenes of longing for his adoptive father, talking to his deceased mother, to love scenes, and has reached the height of being a full-fledged action hero.
Athulya Ravi, who plays the heroine, travels throughout the film and plays an important role in the screenplay. Although she does not have much opportunity to act, she has done the job given to her to the fullest.
The screen presence of the main stars Vinay, Sai Kumar, Bose Venkat, Ananya, Ramesh Thilak, Karunas, Sachin Kadekar, Shakir Hussain, who are present throughout the film, has added great strength to the screenplay.
The timing comedy of Maran and Thangadurai makes you laugh. KPY Deena has done the job given to her as the hero’s friend properly.
All the songs in Thibu Ninan Thomas’ music are hit. The way the huge hit song Gaana, which created great expectations, was filmed is a bit disappointing. The background music is mediocre.
The cinematography of cinematographers Richard M. Nathan and M.S. Prabhu has added great strength to the film. The way the fishing villages of North Chennai and its surrounding areas were displayed and the way the sea-related scenes were filmed is a visual treat.
Editor San Lokesh has edited the scenes in a way that moves the screenplay, which centers on the new world of oil mafia and the field surrounding it, in a lively manner.
Written and directed by Shanmugam Muthusamy, the film has a unique storyline and talks about an important social issue.
Director Shanmugam Muthusamy, who has written a compelling account of the main problems faced by the fishermen in North Chennai, has added strength to the film by describing it as not just a problem for the fishermen but also a problem for the people of Tamil Nadu, and by telling the facts behind it in screen language.
Although the introduction of the crude oil mafia in the first half moves the film interestingly, the romantic scenes drag the screenplay down. In the second half, director Shanmugam Muthusamy, who talks about the problems faced by the fishing villages and rescues the screenplay from its slump, moves the film briskly by telling the solutions to them in a commercial style.
Although the unique storyline, the never-before-told social issue, and the way it was handled capture the attention of the audience, the film ends up being a typical action thriller commercial film, despite the message that should have made a big impact through the usual visual structures of business competition and revenge.
