The music and trailer launch event of ‘Sardar 2’, directed by P. S. Mithran and starring actor Karthi, was held in a grand manner in Chennai. Actor Suriya attended the event as the chief guest and unveiled the trailer of the film.

Directed by P. S. Mithran, ‘Sardar 2’ stars Karthi, S. J. Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Yogi Babu, Rajisha Vijayan, Nassar, Ashish Vidyarthi, ‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi, Achyuth Kumar, Devadarshini, Chinni Jayanth, Jean Paul Lal, Babu Antony, Balaji Sakthivel and several others.

George C. Williams is the cinematographer of the film, while Sam C. S. has composed the music. Vijay Velukutty is handling the editing, and Rajeevan is the art director.

Produced by S. Lakshman Kumar and Ishan Saxena under the banners of Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment, the film is an action entertainer that explores the lives and backgrounds of intelligence officers.

The pre-release promotional event of ‘Sardar 2’, which is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on September 10, was held in a grand manner at the Chennai Trade Centre as the film’s music and trailer launch event. Actor Suriya attended the function as the special guest, unveiled the trailer and congratulated the entire team.

Producer T. G. Thyagarajan, actors Sivakumar, Suriya, Chinni Jayanth, Karthi, S. J. Suryah, Nassar, Kavin and Ravi Mohan, actresses Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath, directors P. S. Mithran, Mohan Raja, Tamil, Sundar C and Rathna Kumar, music composer Sam C. S., editor Vijay Velukutty, stunt choreographer Dileep Subbarayan and several other members of the film fraternity attended the event.

Producer Lakshman Kumar

Speaking at the event, producer Lakshman Kumar said:

“We have brought a huge film like ‘Sardar 2’ to the audience and handed it over to them, just like the massive temple chariot of the Thyagarajaswamy Temple in Thiruvarur. I would like to thank all the actors, actresses and technicians who supported this film. This is our dream project. The person who made it possible to create this film on such a grand scale and with this level of quality is my Great Wall of China — Karthi.

When director Mithran narrated the story, we could see the grandeur of the film. He has executed it with that level of precision. This is a beautiful story. He has created it not merely with action sequences, but also with emotion.

I request everyone to come to theatres on September 10 and enjoy ‘Sardar 2’.”

Suriya

Actor Suriya said:

“I really liked the trailer of ‘Sardar 2’. I remember it very well. When I watched the teaser of this film, there was a fight sequence taking place in the dark. When I saw it, I initially thought it was some international film on Netflix and continued watching it. Suddenly, Karthi appeared on screen. The moment I saw him, I thought, ‘Hey, is this our film?!’ I was amazed. I really liked that teaser.

I did not know that the teaser of Karthi’s ‘Sardar 2’ was going to be released. When I happened to see it by chance, I wondered, ‘Can a Tamil film be made like this? Is this a Mithran film?’ The teaser surprised me, and in the same way, the trailer of this film has also surprised and impressed me.

This film has been created based on real incidents and events that actually happened. ‘Sardar’ was also based on something that happened in India around 50 years ago. They have recreated and presented it on screen. This film has taken one such element as its core. There are many things that we do not know about. Only a small portion of them can be shown on screen.

We have rarely seen a spy thriller in recent times that has been made in Tamil with this level of authenticity, staying so close to real incidents while also maintaining such beautiful aesthetics.

I consider director Mithran to be a wonderful writer-director who understands investigative journalism. When I spoke to him, I realised that he has so many stories within him.

In ‘Sardar’, you presented a highly debatable and thought-provoking subject. I expect ‘Sardar 2’ to create an even bigger discussion than that. The tremendous effort of the technicians is visible in this film. My best wishes to everyone.

I heard that the writer and editor sat together and worked on the editing of the film. That is a healthy trend.

No matter how good a story is, it is actors like S. J. Suryah, who are stars, who take that story to the fans and audiences. I can already see that happening here. If a character is talked about more than the actor himself, that is the greatest blessing an actor can receive.

Karthi has been able to appear on screen as Sardar. He is able to stand there as Sardar. Everyone sees Karthi as Sardar, and audiences still remember that film. If the second part of such a film has now been made, I see it as a blessing for the actor.

There are many films in Karthi’s career that are more important than anything I can say about him. He is capable of doing such films. I watch him in every film with admiration, surprise and happiness. Among them, I consider ‘Sardar’ to be a very important film.

On Thursday morning, September 10, let us all come to theatres, watch ‘Sardar’ and celebrate. It is going to be a huge celebration for his fans. Karthi definitely needs the love and support of his fans.

Producer Lakshman and Karthi have been friends since their school days. It takes tremendous courage to invest such a huge amount of money and make a film of this scale. Without worrying about anything, especially the budget, he has produced this film with the sole intention of giving audiences a high-quality film.

I pray that, with God’s blessings, this film will be released without facing any difficulties and will become a success. My best wishes to director Mithran.”

Director P. S. Mithran

Director P. S. Mithran said:

“I don’t think I should talk about the film. The film itself should speak to the people. So I am not going to talk about the film. Instead, I would like to talk about how this film was made.

First, I have to talk about producer Lakshman Kumar. He was the one who initially told us that we could make a second part of ‘Sardar’. So this is his dream project. He gave me complete confidence and asked me to make it into a special film. My first thanks go to him for that.

In today’s economic situation, even thinking about making a huge film like this is a big thing. I have been travelling with Prince Pictures for six years. I have also been travelling with Karthi for six years. I am the only director who has directed two consecutive films with Karthi.

So I have a lot to say about Karthi. At the music launch of ‘Japan’, I said something. Anyone who works with Karthi will eventually become a better director. He improves your sense of responsibility.

If something has come out well, that is not enough for him. He will say that it can be done even better. That is how he kept motivating me throughout this film.

Karthi is also one of the reasons why this film has been made with this level of quality. The trust he has placed in me is another very important reason.

When I went to meet S. J. Suryah, I went with the mindset that he would agree to act in this film. I had some idea about his expectations. I did not narrate the story to him merely as a director. I narrated it by putting myself in S. J. Suryah’s position.

I learnt from him that one must be clear about everything. Whatever is said should be understandable to the audience and should appeal to them. He fights extremely hard to ensure that.

Despite his busy schedule, he would send me 17-minute voice messages on WhatsApp. His motivation was also one of the reasons why this film grew to such a large scale.

Sam C. S. is a person who is never shaken by anything. If I meet him and tell him that I want him to do something, he will never refuse. I have never heard the words ‘It can’t be done’ from him. I have heard him say, ‘Okay brother, don’t worry’ many times.

When I narrated the story of this film to him, he listened to it completely and said, ‘Brother, just telling this story itself will be a hit; why even make it into a film?’

His positivity is what has made him compose music for a hundred films. Directors approach him because of that positivity. That positivity gives him the energy to work on so many films.

A hundred films does not simply mean a hundred films. It means 800 reels. If you have composed music for 800 reels, that is not an ordinary achievement. So you are the real inspiration. You are a champion. Sam is also one of the reasons for the quality of ‘Sardar’.

I told Ashika Ranganath that she had to perform like someone from the Gen Z generation. After selecting her costumes for that, she happily said, ‘First, I will act in clothes that are comfortable for me.’

One of Ashika’s biggest strengths is that she speaks and practises her Tamil dialogues in Tamil itself. I thank her for that.

Particularly while filming Karthi’s double-action role, Karthi had to act as Vijay and also play Sardar after getting his makeup done. Ashika Ranganath had to be with both of these characters. So it wasn’t only Karthi who had to perform twice; Ashika also had to perform twice.

After watching Malavika’s performance in ‘Thangalaan’, I thought she would be very good in action sequences. So I trusted her and shot action sequences on her very first day of filming.

When she came to the shooting spot on her first day, I explained the action sequences to her. I told her she had to fall from a height of 60 or 70 feet. She initially hesitated, but later gave her complete cooperation.

There are three stages involved in making a film — the stage of creating the film, the stage of shooting it and the stage of completing the film after filming. I thank everyone who worked in all three stages.

There are many indoor sequences in this film. I thank the art director for designing all of them so beautifully.

As far as I am concerned, editor Vijay Velukutty and actor S. J. Suryah are similar. Even when both say, ‘Enough, enough,’ they will say, ‘I will show you another way of acting,’ or ‘I will show you another way of editing the film.’”

S. J. Suryah

Actor S. J. Suryah said:

“When Suriya entered this event, a special aura was created. The fact that he came to this function for his younger brother makes it even more special. I am very happy.

‘Sardar 2’ is a wonderful film. When director P. S. Mithran and Nambi, who worked on the screenplay, spoke on stage, it became clear how hard they had worked for this film.

As the director said, rather than us talking about the film, let the people watch the film and talk about it. They should talk about it.

The teaser has already been released, and now the trailer has also been released. Considering the grandeur of the film and the amount of money the producer has spent on it, this film should become a huge success.

The support given by the producer for this film has been enormous. There were nearly 120 days of shooting, with an approximate expenditure of ₹40 lakh per day. This is a film made on a massive budget. It is a very important film for Karthi.

As director Sundar C said, Karthi is an actor loved by the people. The quality of a person is reflected in the way they keep their word. If Karthi gives a promise, he will stand by it until the end.

After agreeing to act in this film, he completely dedicated himself to the character. The way he looked at the story from within the character was something new for me. I learnt this from him.

For a film to succeed, its story must appeal to the people. It must be a story that audiences can easily connect with. That exists in ‘Sardar 2’.

There is serious drama in ‘Dhurandhar’, but there is also entertainment within it. By entertainment, I mean the kind that allows the audience to feel the flow of the film. ‘Sardar 2’ also has that quality.

In this film, director P. S. Mithran has spoken about ‘human warming’ more than global warming. He has presented it in an entertaining manner.

I thank all the actors and technicians who worked on the film. I hope this film becomes a huge success. It will become a success.”

Music Composer Sam C. S.

Music composer Sam C. S. said:

“The first time I went to a studio in Kumaran Colony, Vadapalani, Chennai, it was to sing. But the people there made me wait for nearly seven hours and then rejected me, saying that I did not have a good enough voice.

I was interested in music at that time, but I wanted to become a singer. After that, many rejections and humiliations continued.

When I stand on a stage after composing music for my hundredth film, I realise how long this journey has been. It was a painful journey. But with the support of God and the people, I believe I have achieved something significant in music.

I am proud that Karthi has acted in my hundredth film. I have always wanted to work with intelligent directors. It is especially satisfying to work with someone like Mithran, who has extensive knowledge of music.

Mithran knows a lot about ragas and musical notes. When I work with people like him, I feel motivated to try something new and surprise them.

Mithran is my friend, but working with him has been a great experience. Among all the directors I have worked with, Mithran is one of my favourites.

While composing the background score for this film, the director and I sat together and worked on it. Musically, this is a film that is very close to my heart.

This film will become a huge success. All of us have worked together and given our best for it.”

Malavika Mohanan

Actress Malavika Mohanan said:

“Filmmaking is an art created through a collective effort. It is not a one-man show. I thank actor Suriya for coming to the music launch of ‘Sardar 2’ and making the event special.

Director Mithran is someone who deeply loves cinema. He has created the world of ‘Sardar’. The story he has told in this film is emotional. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful character.

The first day of shooting for this film is unforgettable for me. As soon as I entered the shooting location, I had to jump from a height of 150 metres and perform action sequences. I was initially hesitant.

But the hard work and support of the entire team encouraged me to perform. I would once again like to thank the director for that.

I performed while defining my own limits. I thank the director and the entire team for pushing those limits further and bringing out a different kind of performance from me.

Sam C. S.’s music was excellent in the teaser of ‘Sardar 2’. I believe the visuals of this film will be enhanced even further by his music.

My co-star Karthi is a wonderful human being. He is very simple and easy to interact with, and he is very generous. If I get another opportunity to work with him, I would be happy to do so.

I have been amazed by his dedication to his character on the shooting set.”

Karthi

Actor Karthi said:

“Tamil cinema is not merely about entertainment. Tamil cinema is an identity of Tamil Nadu.

Here, most of us may be satisfied with scoring 40 or 50 marks. But only a few people think about scoring 100 marks. The team of this film is one such team that wanted to score 100 marks.

Writing an examination with the aim of scoring 100 marks is not easy. This team has worked extremely hard to create the film with that ambition.

Dreams can be written on paper in any way we want. But to turn them into a grand visual creation, you need a producer who believes in and is passionate about the story.

In that sense, if it were not for Prince Pictures producers Lakshman Kumar and Venkatesh, our dream would not have become a reality.

I have worked with many senior actors in this film.

I call Yogi Babu ‘Muruga’. He also calls me ‘Muruga, Muruga’. If you give him a scene, he works very hard to make that scene better. After that, the scene becomes something special.

He also has writing skills. He wants the producer to be in a good position. He wants the director to earn a good name. Because he has so many qualities, he seems to have no room for failure.

I have been surprised many times by the amount of hard work he puts in.

In the first part of ‘Sardar’, the director had included romantic scenes. So when I heard that ‘Sardar 2’ was being made, I expected the romantic scenes to be grand.

When I heard that Malavika Mohanan was the heroine, I thought she looked like our own Monica Bellucci. I expected her to be given spectacular costumes and thought there would be scenes for the fans to enjoy with her.

When I asked the director about this, he explained, ‘Her character Sara is not like that.’ Because in the film, the character Sara is my boss.

Ashika Ranganath is a very talented dancer. But in this film, we have made her run a lot. She is star material. She is a commercial heroine. The director has brought her in and tried to transform her into a fine actress through this film.

You may be able to continue drinking water from plastic bottles even after watching this film. But once you watch this film, you will not be able to ignore what it says. That is because we have told a disturbing truth about your health. That is the most important aspect of the film.

Another thing I really like about Mithran is the respect and value he gives to writers. When a film is made together with writers, it becomes richer and gives audiences more to engage with.

This film will create a huge conversation among the audience. I am someone who wants a film to create a major discussion. Director Mithran has done that with this film. After the film is released, there will be a major conversation around its subject.

Composing music for a hundredth film without any background or connections is an achievement. I wish Sam C. S. continues to compose wonderful music for many more films.

For some people, life gives them a very long wait. But when it gives them an opportunity, it gives it on a massive scale. So Sam C. S. will receive many great opportunities.

Some scenes in this film create fear the moment you see them. It will establish a wonderful connection with the fans and give them a different experience.

We have now found a fresh villain from Tirunelveli. Everything he does in this film was fun to watch.

He brings 100% of his character in front of the camera and 500% in front of the microphone. His hard work is remarkable. Working with him was unforgettable.

His life journey itself is a real inspiration for everyone. You can imitate S. J. Suryah’s acting if you want, but you can never replicate his energy.

I have been thinking about something regarding my father. Until now, my father has never listened to a single story for me. He simply left me to listen to stories myself, choose them and struggle with them.

That surprised me. I wondered why he never guided me. He has also acted as a hero. Not even once has he asked me what the story is, where the shooting is happening or who the director is.

I think that was the greatest freedom he gave me.

I have troubled my fans quite a lot over the past three years. But this time, I have not left you fans wanting anything. I have gone all out.

‘Sardar 2’ will be a film that you can come and enjoy happily. We have created it after carefully considering what would make the fans happy.

We have worked with extra attention on every scene so that you will like the film and understand it.

I hope this film becomes a huge success.”
