“One Man” is a remarkable cinematic experiment by Sankagiri Rajkumar, who has taken on almost every aspect of filmmaking himself — including the story, screenplay, dialogues, direction, cinematography, music, editing, background work, and even the various characters in the film.
The story follows the journey of four friends and a car driver. During their journey, they discover the secret of an invention capable of wiping out every living creature from the world because of human greed. The four friends dream of using it to rule the world for ten days. The film explores whether their ambition succeeds and what danger lies behind the hero’s desire to live alone in a world without anyone else.
The film features spectacular sequences involving car chases, helicopter adventures, train sequences and air travel, created largely through graphics. Although the visual effects are not always technically perfect, the tremendous effort behind creating these sequences as a one-man production is what makes the film stand out.
What is particularly impressive is that Rajkumar has filmed sequences not only in Tamil Nadu but also in the United States, while handling cinematography, graphics, music and editing himself. Even crowded scenes, including a theatre sequence, were created with him appearing in multiple looks and roles.
The film’s biggest strength is therefore not just its story or graphics, but the sheer ambition behind the filmmaking process. The question that stays with the audience is: “How could one person create an entire feature film like this?”
Despite its technical limitations, “One Man” deserves appreciation for its unprecedented attempt. It is a film that could surprise not only cinema lovers but even those who are not particularly interested in movies.
