The heroine Krisha Group, who runs a bird park named ‘Mailanji’ in Ooty, falls in love with a man who lives in her house on rent to escape from her marriage to a man she doesn’t like. When she wants to confess her love to him, he goes to Chennai.
The hero Sriram Karthick, a wildlife photographer, comes to Ooty to take a picture of a bird. He becomes friends with Krisha Group. The friendship turns into love. When she wants to confess her love to Krisha Group, Krisha Group confesses her love and asks Sriram Karthick to set her up with her boyfriend in Chennai. Although he says he will find and catch someone whose phone number and address he does not know, Sriram Karthik, who is nurturing the love in his heart, on the other hand, is falsely involved in trying to make the love of the Grisha Group come together.
At one point, Sriram Karthik, who comes to the conclusion that the love in the heart of the Grisha Group cannot be destroyed, becomes serious about finding her lover, finds him, tells him about the Grisha Group’s love, and tries to get him to come back to Ooty. On the other hand, the Grisha Group realizes that the real love is not the love that arose in the mind due to circumstances, but the habit that affected the mind with Sriram Karthik. He tries to tell the real love that has arisen in his heart to Sriram Karthik, but Sriram Karthik, who does not understand it, leaves the place with the pain of love. Meanwhile, the lover of the Grisha Group he was looking for returns to Ooty, tells everything to the Grisha Group’s family, and makes wedding arrangements.
What is the love story of Sriram Karthik and Krisha Group, who love each other but do not show it, and at the same time, cannot forget each other, and what is the love story of a Chennai resident who, not knowing about their love affair, comes to them at their invitation and prepares for the wedding? ‘Mayilanji’ is an attempt to tell this story with a drop of romantic rasam.
Krisha Group, who plays the heroine, acts childishly in her teenage years, and the elegance in the clothes she wears and the lack of character design make her character difficult to connect with the story. Even though the story revolves around her, she does not affect the audience in any way.
Sriram Karthik, who plays the hero, has done the task given to him well and done justice to his character.
The actor who plays Krisha Group’s one-sided lover has done it to the fullest, even though he has less work to do.
One can laugh lightly in the scenes where Munishkanth and Singampuli appear. Senthi, who plays the hero’s mother, the actress who plays the heroine’s stepmother, and Kalaiyarasan Kannusamy, who plays the uncle, are used to help the flow of the screenplay.
Cinematographer Chezhiyan’s work has added great strength to the film. No matter where the camera is placed in the lush greenery of Ooty, it looks beautiful, but cinematographer Chezhiyan, who has displayed it with extra beauty through his angles, has expressed the unspoken poetry in the love scenes through his camera and made us enjoy it.
Although the songs in Ilayaraja’s music are not as good as expected, they melodiously express the love in the hearts of the lovers and make us enjoy it. The background music is also sweet.
Editor Sreekar Prasad has tried hard to make the audience travel with the film by keeping only the love in the hearts of people and the feelings that arise through it. However, his efforts fail in many places as the screenplay has very few opportunities for that.

Director Ajayan Bala has strongly recorded the love feelings of the hero who is trying to win the love of the woman he loves, and the love feelings of the heroine, and although he has told it not only through a very simple screenplay but also with beauty, it is enjoyable, but the film’s failure to tell it in accordance with the current modern era is a shortcoming.
