16 children are kidnapped in a single day. Sudeep, a suspended police officer, who is involved in the effort to rescue them, is also given the responsibility of recovering the video evidence of the Chief Minister’s murder. While searching for the kidnapped children on one hand, Sudeep also searches for the video evidence on the other, and discovers a connection between the two incidents. ‘Mark’ is the story of what happens next, told in a thrilling and action-packed manner.
Even though suspended, Sudeep, who performs his police duties without wearing the uniform, dominates the entire film with his powerful performance. He has made the scenes where he single-handedly beats up about 50 people believable. From the scene where he is introduced at the police station while intoxicated, to the final scene where he says, “I should reduce smoking,” he single-handedly carries the entire film on his shoulders and captivates the audience’s attention.
Naveen Chandra, who plays the villain, terrifies the audience with the cruelty he expresses through his eyes. Naveen Chandra’s villainous performance, as he moves around with intense anger throughout the film, is menacing.
Although Guru Somasundaram, who plays another villain, does not have a major role, he has done the given job without any flaws.
Even though it’s a small role, Vikranth travels as a central point of the story and contributes to the suspense of the screenplay.
Although the comedy in the scenes featuring Yogi Babu doesn’t quite land, he serves as a recognizable presence in the film. Roshni Prakash, Deepiksha, Dragon Manju, Gopalkrishnan Deshpande, Abhishek Joseph George, Archana Kotti, and others in supporting roles have performed well in their respective characters.
Cinematographer Sekhar Chandru has effectively showcased the film’s budget on screen. Even though most of the scenes were shot at night, Sekhar Chandru’s use of lighting ensures that the audience doesn’t feel this, and his work has enhanced the film’s quality.
Music director B. Ajaneesh Loknath has infused the songs and background score with mass appeal and heroism. The song “Annan Yaar Theriyuma…” is particularly catchy and will surely have you humming along.
S.R. Ganesh Babu’s editing keeps the screenplay moving without any lag, and even though the scenes move quickly, it keeps the audience engaged, wondering what will happen next.
Writer and director Vijay Karthikeya, despite having a simple core concept, has crafted an engaging screenplay and directed it as a mass action film befitting a mass hero like Sudeep.
Although the film has all the elements of a complete, non-boring mass action commercial film, the fight sequences in the second half are somewhat tiring. However, the scenes depicting the race against time to rescue the children keep the audience engaged and make them forget the fatigue.
From beginning to end, director Vijay Karthikeya keeps the film entertaining with its twists and action sequences. Even with a simple story, he has successfully delivered it as a mass hero film, showcasing his skill in the process.
