Kalyani Priyadarshan, a heroine with superpowers, comes to Bangalore. Naslen, Chandu Salimkumar and Arun Kurian, who live in the house opposite the basement apartment where she works in a bakery, are attracted to her. At the same time, a gang that kidnaps people and steals their body parts causes a stir in Bangalore. Kalyani Priyadarshan has to clash with Sandy, a police inspector associated with the gang. What happened after knowing the truth about her? ‘Loka – Chapter 1: Chandra’ tells the story of our mythological character as a superhero.
Kalyani Priyadarshan has been cast as a woman with superpowers in the role of Chandra. She is especially impressive in the fight scenes. Although she does not speak much, she has perfectly suited the superhero character with her modest body movements and has played her role in a way that the audience celebrates.
The story is moved by Nazlan, Sandhu Salimkumar and Arun Kurian, who play the young men who are attracted to Chandra, and their dialogue and body language make you laugh at many places. In particular, Nazlan’s performance as he follows Chandra and sees who she is is a laugh riot.
The villainy of choreographer Sandy, who plays the role of police inspector Nachiyappa Gowda, is terrifying.
The special appearances of Tovino Thomas, Dulquer Salmaan and the characters of the elder who do not appear on the screen have been handled in a way that arouses expectations in the screenplay.
Music composer Jacques Bejoy’s background score, cinematographer Nimish Ravi’s angles and colors not only make the film grand but also of high quality.
Art director Bangalan’s work, stunt director Yannick Ben’s stunts, VFX scenes, everything is of high quality.
Although what is happening in the beginning of the film is a bit unclear, who is Chandra? He explains very clearly, and although there are many things in the film, such as the Superman world, the super-powered people in it, the editor Chaman Shacko has made everything brief and increased the interest of the film.
Although Superman genre films are rare in South Indian cinema, it is a huge challenge to make such films memorable in the minds of the people. Director Dominic Arun has handled that challenge very well.
Director Dominic Arun, who has portrayed the character in our mythological stories as a super-powered superman and created a huge superman world through it, has handled the first chapter, Chandra, very well. Especially Chandra’s childhood trauma, her transformation into a super-powered woman from there, and her subsequent journeys are in a way that will make everyone from children to adults enjoy it.
The introduction of the character of Chandra and the scenes revealing her real face, not only celebrate the character of Superman, but also make the audience connect with the film. But all this is only in the first half. Although the second half is an introduction to the expansion of the world of Superman, and what the superheroes of the subsequent chapters will be like, the story seems to travel a different path.
Why is Chandra coming to Bangalore? What is the mission given to him? Who are they fighting against? It doesn’t matter if the answers are not given, but the fact that the film ends with the introduction of other superheroes without giving any lead for it makes the screenplay a little weak.
