In 1991, many Eelam Tamils, including Sasikumar, who came to Tamil Nadu through a smuggler, are housed in the Rameswaram camp. At that time, the Indian Prime Minister is assassinated by a human bomb. As a result, the Tamil Nadu police, who have recently taken those who came from Sri Lanka for questioning, create a prison-like structure in Vellore Fort and lock them up in it. Those innocent Eelam Tamils, who have been suffering atrocities for many years in the name of questioning, at one point decide to escape from there. ‘Freedom’ tells the story emotionally and with visuals comparable to Hollywood films, whether they escaped or not.
Based on the true story of many Eelam Tamils who came to Tamil Nadu as refugees to escape the atrocities they were experiencing in Sri Lanka, director Sathyasiva has not only made this film an emotional work but also a thrilling film.
Sasikumar, who plays an Eelam Tamil, has performed well in terms of dialogue and body language. He conveys the pain of the Eelam Tamils who are suffering due to the brutal actions of the police through his performance and leaves the audience shaken.
Except for Lijimol Jose, who plays Sasikumar’s wife, she has performed so well that it is said that no one could have played this role.
All the actors, including M. Ramasamy and Manikandan, who are in prison with Sasikumar, are intimidating in their performances.
The main characters, such as Ramesh Khanna, who plays the investigation officer, Sudev Nair, who plays the investigating officer, and Malavika, who plays the lawyer, are suitable choices for the roles.w
Ghibran’s music has increased the gravity of the screenplay and the tension in the scenes.
Cinematographer Udayakumar has realistically captured the horrors that take place in the prison and the scenes of trying to escape from there.
The work of editor Srikanth.NP and art director C.Udayakumar has also added strength to the film.
Director Sathyasiva, who has presented the atrocities suffered by the Eelam Tamils in Tamil Nadu during the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, has brought to light the hidden sorrows of the Eelam Tamils. Director Sathyasiva, who has shaken the hearts of the audience through the characters and visual settings, has also intimidated them through excellent making with a vibrant visual setting.
