The story takes place during the anti-Hindi period. Protagonist Keerthy Suresh, a writer of stories under a pseudonym and a staunch anti-Hindi, is adamant that the Hindi language should not enter her hometown of Valluvan Pettai at any cost. He has been organizing many protests by mobilizing people for that. But circumstances force him to pass the Hindi exam.

Did Keerthy Suresh, who is a hero who is a role model for many in fighting against the imposition of Hindi language, learn Hindi to get rid of the problem that has arisen in him, or did he become a hero and continue to oppose Hindi and get rid of his problem? ‘Raghu Datta’ is what he tried to tell as a joke.

In K. Bhagyaraj’s 1981 film ‘Innu Boi Kamani Wa’, the scene in which he teaches Hindi by keeping the word “Raghu Datta” will make you laugh out loud. Even with that word in the title, it’s a huge disappointment that the humor in that scene is missing in this film.

Keerthy Suresh who plays the heroine of the story as Kayalvizhi resists the imposition of Hindi and crawls as a revolutionary manga speaking feminism and has done her job flawlessly. But, he couldn’t score well in comedy scenes.

MS Bhaskar, who plays Keerthy Suresh’s grandfather, tries to make the audience laugh as much as he can, like a throat-sore speaker in an empty public gathering. His efforts have made the fans laugh at some places but at many places they are sitting there not knowing what to do.

Apart from Devadarsini and Anandasamy, all the actors and actresses who have played other roles are not very popular with the fans and their performances do not match the script, and the film is running away from the audience.

Shaun Roldan’s music, songs and background score mar the film like a derailed train.

Although cinematographer Yamini Yagnamurthy is a bit manicured for being a period film, there are bound to be some logical lapses there too.

Written and directed by Suman Kumar, the plot is about Hindi imposition and the struggle against it, but without talking or showing any controversial issues, he has given importance only to comedy. Even though there is an opportunity for that in the screenplay, instead of focusing on it, he focused on completing the film within a certain budget and instead of making the fans laugh, he has been hard on himself.

The fans who watch the film without understanding anything about what is happening and what they are trying to say from the beginning to the end of the film are made to laugh a little for comfort only about 20 minutes before the final scene of the film.
