Prabhas-starrer Adipurush has been moved from the Sankranti race. The film’s makers announced the new release date as June 16, 2023. Explaining the rationale behind it, director Om Raut said that in order to give a complete visual experience to the audiences, they need to allot more time to the teams working on the film, which inadvertently meant that the release date had to be pushed. To rewind a bit, the film’s teaser drew backlash from all corners for its poor VFX work and misrepresentation of several supporting characters.
The statement from Raut read: “Adipurush is not a film, but a representation of our devotion to Prabhu Shri Ram and commitment towards our Sanskrit and history. In order to give a complete visual experience to the viewers, we need to give more time to the teams working on the film. Adipurush will now release on June 16, 2023. We are committed to make a film that India will be proud of. Your support, love and blessings is what keeps us going.”
Interestingly, in the West the makers will find it difficult to get 3D screens as films like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and The Flash are scheduled to occupy a lot of 3D screens in different weeks of June beginning June 2nd. Down here in India as well, the makers of Ajay Devgn-starrer Chanakya are also looking to slot the film for June 16.
A cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana, Adipurush, set 7,000 years ago, sees Prabhas in the role of Raghav, while Kriti Sanon is playing Janaki and Sunny Singh will be seen as Lakshman. To be also presented in 3D and IMAX, the film is a joint production venture between Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Om Raut, Prasad Sutar and Rajesh Nair. UV Creations is releasing the film in Telugu.
