Made on a low budget, E 1 aims to raise awareness among parents of daughters about good touch, bad touch, and don’t touch. Did the film manage to impress audiences or not? Let’s take a closer look.

On the outskirts of a small town stands a huge apartment complex. The story unfolds in an apartment named E 1, where a woman lives alone with her infant child.

One night, while talking to her husband over the phone, the woman hears a strange noise and walks into the living room. To her horror, she finds a masked man standing beside a dead body.

After a short while, the man reveals his face and warns her, saying, “I have killed this human beast who was involved in sexually abusing someone. I will escape from here before daybreak. Until then, you must remain calm and cooperate with me.”

How does the woman, left alone without her husband and caring for an infant, deal with the challenges of being trapped with a stranger and a dead body inside her home? This forms the central plot of the film.

Although the film maintains elements of suspense and thriller throughout, its low-budget production is clearly evident in both its technical execution and cinematic presentation.

Nevertheless, the directors deserve some appreciation for attempting to convey an important message: parents of girls must educate their children about appropriate and inappropriate touch. However, the message is delivered with a somewhat preachy tone.

If the screenwriter had raised a basic question—how could a woman possibly sleep when a stranger enters her home at night, especially when he is accompanied by a dead body?—the screenplay could have been much more compelling and convincing.

The climax also has a scene involving the father of the victimized girl, who declares that he will continue on a path of violence. This development is difficult to accept and does not feel entirely convincing.

Actor Sada Nadar, who plays Kumar, the male lead; Pandi, who portrays Kumar’s friend; and Monica Celina, the popular Instagram personality who plays the female lead and the mother of the infant, all fit into their respective roles and deliver restrained performances.

E. J. Johnson’s background score stands out more than M. S. Manokumar’s cinematography.

E 1 is a low-budget thriller that attempts to deliver an important message about child safety and awareness of appropriate and inappropriate touch. While the film deserves credit for addressing this socially relevant issue, its technical limitations, screenplay shortcomings, and certain unconvincing plot developments prevent it from becoming a thoroughly engaging cinematic experience.
