Samuthirakani, who runs a small lottery ticket shop in Kumuli, Kerala, lives a simple life with his wife and two daughters and faces many financial problems, but he is kind to everyone. At this time, Bharathiraja, who buys some lottery tickets from him, says that he has lost the money, so he will pay for the tickets he bought and then leaves. Samuthirakani decides to hand over the prize of Rs. 1.50 crores to him for one of the tickets he bought.
Who is Bharathiraja?, Which town? Without knowing any details, including the name of the village in the yellow bag he brought, Samuthirakani travels to find him and hand over the winning lottery ticket to him. His wife and family, who know the truth, oppose his decision and try to stop him. With their efforts, Samuthirakani is saved from some dangers. Did he hand over the lottery ticket to the right person? Was his honesty correct? What happened to him as a result? ‘Mr. Manickam’ answers the questions with humanity.
In the character of Manickam, who is like a shirt tailored for Samuthirakani, with simplicity, love for everyone, clear thinking, and an honest life, the human being has lived like Manickam. Although he does not speak much, the character of Manickam and its background speak for themselves without saying many things.
Ananya, who plays Samuthirakani’s wife, is capable of playing young roles like college and love, but she also plays a mature role like a wife and mother of two daughters. When she gets a chance to solve the family problem but is unable to do so due to her husband’s honesty, she expresses the anger that arises inside her in her performance and makes a mark as a good actress.
Bharathiraja, who plays the role of an old man well, Ilavarasu, who plays the case realistically, Nassar, who is memorable even in a small scene, Vadivukkarasi, Chinni Jayant, who plays the priest of the church and makes fun of the priests, Karunakaran, who plays the policeman, Sams, who plays the bus drivers, Sriman, all the actors in the film, although they did not make a big impact, did not harm the screenplay with their modest performances.
But, the expressions and actions displayed by Thambi Ramaiah, who plays the London returnee, in the name of comedy and acting, are not only unfunny but also make the audience angry.
All the songs in Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music reflect the plot and the feelings of the characters. The background music is also good.
Cinematographer M. Sukumar’s camera eyes have realistically and beautifully depicted the Kerala regions, and have neatly conveyed the sadness and tears of the simple people to the audience.
Editor Guna keeps the audience on a nervous journey with the question of whether Samuthirakani’s journey will succeed.
Written and directed by Nanda Periyasamy, the honest life of the simple people is not a propaganda film, but a thrilling thriller genre film that can be watched as a family and has a good message.
Although we have already seen lottery tickets, prizes, honesty, and the problems that arise from them in some films, Nanda Periyasamy has tried to tell it in a different style. Even though the story travels with a family background, the fact that the story moves forward with excitement and anticipation of what will happen next has added strength to the film.
Without wondering if such a person exists, director Nanda Periyasamy has emphatically recorded the idea that everyone should be like this, and has succeeded in handling the screenplay so that the audience can feel the peace of mind that comes from an honest life for those who think that they can live however they want.
