Vijay Antony, a world-renowned investigative reporter, has stepped down from the job due to personal reasons and lives with his daughter. Meanwhile, his friend, the editor of Vaanam magazine, is brutally murdered. Knowing the matter, Vijay Antony starts working as a journalist again. Everyone believes that the journalist’s murder was committed by the actor’s rabid fan and only Vijay Antony gets suspicious.
Subsequently, Vijay Antony, who goes into the field to find out the secret behind the murder, discovers that not only his friend but also others have been murdered in a similar manner and that there is a huge network behind these murders. Who is that network?, and what is their connection to the murdered people? ‘Ratham’ is told not only briskly with unpredictable twists but also in the crime thriller genre that has never been tackled before.
What is the suspense in the film even though the title of the film is ‘Ratham’, but there is no blood anywhere except in the first scene? The film moves very interestingly so that it is impossible to guess till the end.
Apart from actor Vijay Antony, who has displayed all the emotions in his performance, such as intense face, clear vision, sharp thinking, fast action, no other actor would have fit this character so perfectly. Vijay Antony, who has given life to the fantasy of what an investigative reporter looks like, has acted so well that every movement has been a huge force not only for his character but also for the scenes.
Ramya Nambisan, Mahima Nambiar and Nandita Swetha, the three actresses have traveled not as heroines but as supporting characters to the story. While all three do their jobs flawlessly, Mahima Nambiar’s beauty and the danger lurking within are unexpected.
Shadows Ravi, John Mahendran, OAK Sundar, Meesha Ghosal, Kalairani all the actors in the film have been used to the right extent according to the flow of the screenplay.
Cinematographer Gopi Amarnath, music director Kannan Narayanan, cinematographer DS Suresh and art director Senthil Raghavan are impeccable. Especially the background score by music composer Kannan Narayan has enhanced the vibrancy of the scenes. Both the theme song and the promo song “Blood…Blood…” are suitable for the storyline and hum along.
A murder, who is guilty?, why did he commit the murder? Even after being told that at the very beginning of the film, the incident keeps us on the edge of our seats for over two hours, wondering what will happen next? Director C.S. Amuthan, who has handled the screenplay in a very different way with anticipation and unpredictable twists, has used a method that has never been told in the crime thriller type of plot.
Director C.S. Amuthan who makes the audience nervous in the first scene of the film, then slowly takes us into the story of Vijay Antony’s introduction and his life, and after the 20th minute of the film, he completely immerses us in the world of an investigative journalist.
All the incidents that take place in the film get extra attention as they are incidents that we may pass by as news every day. Moreover, the screenplay written by director Amuthan gives a new experience to the audience by creating a unity to all those incidents and keeping a huge suspense in the background.
The director, who has described the investigative reporter and his work in great detail, has made it very clear that through social networking pages, one can know the details of a person and also know their mood easily.
Crime thriller plots have a typical style, specifically who is the culprit? After knowing that, they will surely tell the background of why he is doing this. But the director C.S. Amuthan has left such a style aside and has given a crime thriller film in a completely new style, which has never been seen before.
