Simbu & Trisha in Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn

The bittersweet journey of Karthik and Jessie didn’t find itself confined to the celluloid frames but became inevitable reality bound nostalgia to zillions. It’s been more than a decade and still ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ remains a cherishing piece of work. The open ending of Karthik bidding adieu to Jessie kept its fervent buffs on a prolonged wait with relentless soliciting for the sequel. Well, the arrival of ‘Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn’, tagged with “A Short Film for Now…” From Gautham Vasudev Menon has ignited the sparks of celebrations. What’s more celebratory is the 12-minute short film accomplishing a remarkable feat of 4 Million views within 48 hours.

Filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon says, “I am surprised” and that’s an astonishing citation to hear from the auteur, who has tasted success with a blockbuster love story isn’t it? “It’s because I strongly believe a filmmaker faces hardest barricades when attempting a sequel to a hit flick. Although the motif of a sequel has been on the cards for a longer phase, I had to go through the inner conflicts in dropping the exact idea on paper. Of course, the process still continues. But I am happy to see a heart-warming response to this short feature. Naturally, if not for STR, Trisha, and AR Rahman, this would have not found a colossal reach. I thank my technical team for translating my ideas into good visuals and getting this short feature materialized.”

So what does ‘A short film for now’ actually imply? Can we expect another beautiful journey of Karthik and Jessie in a new-dimensional love story yet again? Ask Gautham Vasudev Menon and he smilingly signs off saying, “The journey will begin soon.”
