Shanmugasundaram cremated amid tearful tributes

Veteran actor Shanmugasundaram (77), popular for his role in Karagattakaran and known among the youngsters for his role in Chennai 28 series, passed away in Chennai on Tuesday. His last rites were held on Wednesday.

He was famous among the previous generation for many of his roles including the one which he played in Karatakaran as Kanaka’s father.

The cult actor had a unique dialogue delivery style and was a favourite among everyone.

Sources revealed that the 79-year-old was suffering from age related ailments which deteriorated despite taking proper treatments.

The actor who was originally a stage artiste made his debut in Rathathilagam and his last film was Simbhu’s AAA. He has also acted in many megaserials.

Condoling his death, director Venkat Prabhu tweeted: “Actor, uncle, thatha, friend and more.. My fav cult actor mr shanmugasundaram is no more! He was part of all my movies! May his soul RIP.”

Ashwin Ravichandran posted, “RIP Mr.Shanmugasundaram the character artist. He created a niche for himself, may his soul find its purpose.”

Nitin Sathyaa wrote: “Carnan, karakatakaran, chennai28. The journey was indeed long. As long as cricket is there u will be remembered RIP #ShanmugaSundaram
