The makers of 29 The Film have unveiled a new promotional video titled World of 29, offering a heartfelt glimpse into the emotional core of the film. Featuring lead actors Vidhu and Preethi Asrani, the video captures a tender romantic moment between the protagonists, hinting at the film’s tone and narrative depth.
The sequence begins with Preethi’s character expressing quiet frustration over the absence of a formal proposal, despite the couple sharing a deep bond over time. As the moment unfolds, Vidhu’s character gently reassures her, revealing that the beach they stand on holds special significance—it is where their journey together first began. The scene subtly establishes the film’s emotional layering, rooted in memory, love, and shared history.
Directed by Rathna Kumar, 29 is positioned as a romantic drama set against a nostalgic backdrop, with the story unfolding in the timeline of 2010. At the World of 29 event, filmmaker and producer Lokesh Kanagaraj expressed his excitement about backing the project, stating that although he has not yet watched the film, he has strong faith in Rathna Kumar’s ability to deliver a heartfelt and engaging story. He also expressed happiness in collaborating on a project centered on emotional storytelling.
Speaking at the same event, Rathna Kumar acknowledged the challenge of releasing 29 alongside major films like Kara and Karuppu, but remained optimistic. With humour and confidence, he said that persistence and belief in the content would help the film reach its audience.
He also thanked producer Karthikeyan Santhanam for his strong support. Despite initial criticism of one of the songs, the producer stood by the project and played an important role in shaping its promotional strategy and overall momentum.
Rathna Kumar revealed that 29 originated from his personal Facebook posts and short stories. Encouraged to expand them into a feature film, he developed a narrative blending real emotions with fictional storytelling, giving it a grounded yet cinematic feel.
Producer Karthik Subbaraj described 29 as an “evergreen love story,” praising its simple yet emotionally powerful writing. He also hinted that the film could expand into a broader storytelling space focused on love and relationships.
