The film “Happy Raj”, produced by Jayavardhan, directed by Maria Ilanchezhiyan, and starring GV Prakash Kumar, is set to release in theaters on March 27. Ahead of the release, a pre-release event was held yesterday evening in Chennai, attended by several film industry celebrities including actors Vijay Sethupathi, Gavin, and producer association president G.K.M. Tamilkumar, among others.
At the event, actor Vijay Sethupathi spoke:
Greetings to everyone. First of all, congratulations to Tamilkumar sir and his team for their success in the producers’ association elections. Sir, initially I was hesitant to participate because I feared that attending might lead to some unforeseen issues affecting our film. When given a responsibility, it should be taken with full accountability. That’s why I declined initially. But I am very happy that you succeeded. Congratulations, sir.
I want to start by appreciating the Beyond Pictures team. You spoke very beautifully. Whenever a new producer enters the industry, they should be welcomed warmly. Cinema is a wonderful profession; no one should be afraid. This is not advice, just my experience. Just like a director learns to direct, an actor learns to perform, a producer should also learn about business and scripts. You are all young – learn well and make many films.
I thank Maria for giving opportunities to the team in this film. Congratulations, Maria. The trailer is very well made – entertaining and joyful. Even the title ‘Happy Raj’ brings happiness. Watching the trailer was delightful. Our GV Prakash Kumar always seems like a schoolboy when he acts – he appears youthful in any era. I really liked it. Congratulations, Mariam anna, you look wonderful. I like you very much.
Also, I must mention Justin Prabhakaran. He is very close to me, and I admire his work. I have known him since ‘Pannaiyarum Padminiyum’. In films like ‘Sarvam Thaala Mayam’ and ‘Neelorpam’, he has shown exceptional talent as a music composer. I believe he will reach even greater heights. I really like him.

Director Maria Ilanchezhiyan Speaks
“Good evening everyone. First, my name is Maria Ilanchezhiyan. ‘Raja’ is my father’s name, and he is here with us today. So I thought I should begin by acknowledging him because he has always supported me. Until recently, he didn’t even know the story. A few days ago, when the song ‘Thuru Thuru’ was released, he proudly shared it in every family WhatsApp group as ‘my son’. When we watched the final scene in the trailer, I looked at my father, and he was beaming with pride. Thank you, Dad. My mother is also here – thank you, Ma. And of course, my entire family is present, and I’m grateful to them all.Next, I want to thank my director mentor Pradeep Ranganathan. I’ve worked with him for the past five years and learned a lot. That experience is reflected in this project. We worked as one team. A special thanks to him for helping with the first promo of my film – I was nervous whether he would do it, but he did it beautifully. He doesn’t normally do this for anyone. Today he is a major hero and continues to achieve success. I’m proud to have shared the screen with him. Thank you, Pradeep Pro. Although he could not attend today, he sent his greetings to the team.
Next, my hero GV Prakash Kumar – thank you, sir. After completing the story, I wondered whom to cast. Initially, opportunities were limited, and it was a difficult period. I reached out to GV sir via a message, and he immediately responded, which surprised me. Later, he asked for the pitch deck, and after reviewing it, he met me and listened to the story. He was the only hero who truly appreciated it.
He responds to everyone promptly, and that one response changed my life. I am deeply grateful, sir. He also consistently gives opportunities to new directors, which inspired me to dedicate 200% effort to this film. From appearance to performance, we worked hard to bring this story to life. I will always remain thankful.
I also want to thank producers Jayavardhan Pro and Jai Pro. Their positivity and enthusiasm were key to the film’s success. The film is being promoted all over Chennai and Tamil Nadu. Jai Pro frequently checked in with me, and Jayavardhan Pro has been very supportive. Thank you to both of them.
Our heroine Gauri – initially there was hesitation in casting her, but after hearing the story, she loved it and delivered an excellent performance. Compared to her previous film ‘Lover’, there’s a scene here where I emphasized her emotions more.
Additionally, having Appas Sir in this film was a major strength. Thanks to our EP Vishrath for suggesting he join the project.”

Initially, producers were not available when the story was told. Later, Jayavardhan and Jaikanth joined the project. They turned it into a profitable venture, and I am sincerely thankful to them. About George Sir – some say he was born for this character, and he is indeed perfect for it. Even a national award-winning actor has praised his performance. After watching this film, George Sir will leave a lasting impression. Gauri acted wonderfully – her natural performance and confident screen presence were a joy to work with. I believe she will be seen winning awards in the future. Prarthana acts as a ‘lucky charm’ – all her films succeed, and she brought that luck to this film as well.
Justin Prabhakaran composed fantastic songs, especially the dance number. His work is impressive, and everything he starts now becomes a success. Mani delivered an excellent dance sequence for the interval in his first film, which was very impressive. He will receive many awards in the future.”

I knew nothing about the film initially. When I first saw the ‘Happy Raj’ teaser, it gave me the same energy as the ‘Love Today’ trailer. That same powerful energy is evident in this film. Since it comes from Pradeep Ranganathan’s team, the impact is noticeable.
Many actors I like are in this film, especially GV Prakash Kumar and others. Working with talented people like them has been a joy. Many say that correct casting is essential for a film’s success.
