Maanbumigu Parai was written by our producers Subha & Suresh Ram. Parai music is a common music and you saw in the trailer how we have brought it to the screen. We have planned the film in two parts, in the first part we plan to tell the lives of the Parai musicians and in the second part we plan to tell the different types of Parai music. Our producers made the film with the aim of taking local Parai music to the world. Now the film has been screened at many festivals all over the world and has won awards. Our aim has been fulfilled. Many people think that they are Paraiyars because they play the drum. There is no way that can be the case. That is when the situation of saying that we are superior to them has developed. This is the opinion of social analysts. There is no way that a society called Paraiyar could have emerged from Paraiyar. But because of his use, a psychology has been built here that sees it as a despicable tool, a despicable object. This is what needs to be changed. There is this drag in the general psychology. Periyar dreamed of wiping it out. The revolutionary Ambedkar dreamed of that, and that is what we are talking about. It is because of that political understanding that Vijaya Sukumaran has named this film Honorable Paraiyar.
The courage to say “Honorable Prime Minister” or “Honorable Chief Minister” can only be done from a political understanding. If people like Thambi Siva have acted in such a film today, then the politics he learned from his brother Leonie is also the basis for it. We are not talking about the remnants and records of the war waged against this caste system today. It is Mr. Thiruvalluvane who has expressed his concern that this caste system should not be.
