Maanagaram Movie Review

After tasting success with ‘Maaya’ which released last year, Potential Studios banner have given another potential hit film with Maanagaram.

Directed by debutant Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film has no big names, but keeps the audience engaged right from the title card till the end card.

The story is basically on the life in Chennai, the pros and the cons.
Shri is a youngster from Trichy who moves to Chennai to get a job in a IT company where Regina Cassandra works.

Regina Cassandra is pursued by Sundeep Kishan, her college mate, who is a young man with social concern much like the Kamal Haasan in Sathya.

Versatile actor Charlie plays an important role as a migrant taxi driver who drives the car of gangster Madhusudhanan. We are also introduced to Ramdoss who is a misfit in the gang of robbers.

Even with multiple angle story line, the director is clear in want he wants to convey and steps into the story right from the beginning without wasting time.

With multiple incidents happening at multiple places, the director has clearly given the interlink between the characters with a hyperlink screenplay pattern.

Sharp dialogues and clear narration are the biggest strength of the flick and DOP Selvakumar has ensured that he brings out the day and night life of the city sufficiently.

Though there are a few logical setbacks they can be overseen.
Shri has given a brilliant performance, and Sundeep Kishan suits well in the role of an angry youngster.

Regina Cassandra has managed to give a scintillating performance. Charlie and Ramdoss have understood their roles and have done justice to their characters.

Songs by Javed Riaz are nice and the background score has announced the arrival of a promising youngster.

Maanagaram is a thoroughly engrossing thriller flick with right mix of all ingredients.
