Amma Sports Foundation presents AMMA AWARDS 2016 as part of National Sports Day and First Anniversary Celebrations – 5:30 PM, 29th August 2016 at University Centenary Hall, Madras University

On the occasion of National Sports Day, Amma Sports Foundation presented  AMMA Awards to some of the Country’s most respected sporting personalities in the presence of a galaxy of popular Tamil Film  Stars Nayanthara, Sneha, Prasanna, action king Arjun, Nasser, Attlee to honour Viswanathan Anand,Vasudev Bhaskaran and many other sporting legends.

The function will be witnessed by the Chief Minister Madam J Jayalalithaa and will be presided over by honourable Minister for Higher EDUCATION Mr. Anbazhagan. The ceremony will also honour some of our society’s most generous hearts and minds who have committed themselves to the service of the people. Chennai Floods tested our human spirit and in these times many ordinary citizens came forward to help people and save lives. We will be celebrating that spirit of Chennai.

The award function was followed by an exciting array of music and celebrity stand-up comedy acts to entertain the audiences.

 About Amma Sports Foundation

Launched on August 29, 2015on“National sports day” at University Centenary Hall, Amma Sports Foundation – “An initiative for excellence in sports” who’s vision is to promote, train and bring to the limelight, Olympic quality sportspersons from Tamil Nadu. Our mission is to unearth hidden talent in the field of sports from across Tamil Nadu especially villages. We aim to pave way for young talent to reach the ultimate goal as sportspersons, by supporting them to attain their goals. We also aim to empower the youth with knowledge to develop their skills and support and help them achieve their goals. We will prepare these talented youth in a holistic way to reach the zenith of their performance. We aspire to emerge dominant in the National and International sporting arenas.

Amma Sports Foundation marks National Sports Day of India, celebrated on the August 29th. This day marks the birthday of Dhyan Chand, the hockey player who won three Olympic gold medals for India in year 1928,1932 and 1936 during an era where India was the most dominant team in Hockey in the international arena. Known as “The Wizard” for his superb ball control, Chand played his final international match in 1948, having scored more than 400 goals during his international career.

Amma Sports Foundationbegins its journey on the same date as the birthday of Dhyan Chand, embarks on the greatest journey to find aspiring, dedicated and talented sportspersons to make our motherland proud.

The One Year Journey of Amma Sports Foundation

As a dynamic and proactive foundation ASF have enthusiastically worked in the past one year to aid and encourage TN sports persons.  They  have completed successfully “Sports Awareness On Wheels”(SAW) Program in Tamil Nadu covering 32 district spreading the awareness through a specially designed high-tech vehicle highlighting benefits of sports and promoting the schemes started by our Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Our AMMA .

ASF volunteers have been actively involved in flood relief activities during the flood in Chennai. ASF Volunteers are involved as rescue team during the Pongal Season at Marina Beach to safeguard the public at Marina Sea shore Area. They have done successfully Walkathon Marathon titled “APJ Abdul Kalam Walkathon Marathon 2016 where more than 10000 people participated at Marina Beach on the occasion of Women’s Day.

ASF has given Cash Award of Rs. 50000/- to the Visually Impaired and to PARA JUDO Commonwealth Championship held at Port Elizabeth – South Africa, Champions. ASF helped needy sports people providing them Sportswear and financial assistance. ASF Sponsored Medals and Trophies to State Level Boxing Championship Held At Nehru Stadium in June 2016

Upcoming Events –2016-17

1) Oct 2016- Marathon – (Dr.Apj Abdul Kalam International Walkathon/ Marathon)

2) Amma Trophy: Will Be Held In January, 2017 (During Pongal)

District level athletic meets will be conducted across 32 districts of Tamil Nadu. The best performing athletics who win in each district will be invited for a final round to Chennai. These players from each district will be given individual medals according to their performance. The district which scores the maximum points will be given the ultimate recognition; they will be the recipient of Amma Trophy

Amma Sports Foundationplans to support – Kabbadi, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, shuttle, cricket and other sporting games in the near-future. ASF would also host many international sporting events to be conducted in Tami Nadu.

3) Real Heroes Award – The Real Hero Award Will Be Conducted To Honor Tamil Nadu Police Personnel Who Are Safe Guarding And Protecting Lives.
